About:: Generika Hi Fi started off 4 years ago at the Ritzy Crush Bar under the promotional name of Akufunkture. At the time the only thing South London had to offer was the Z, Satay & Fridge Bar, which, to all extent and purposes, served as entertaining slices of nightlife back in 2000. As with all things that seem good at the time, boredom & monotony soon set in.

The excitement that used to surround Brixton on a Friday & Saturday night soon dissipated, which sparked a conversation between the heads about creating events that would prove far more uplifting than any Moet Champagne, Usher & ...erm...Nelly??? filled night.

So…becoming frequently frustrated about the lack of good music being played in these establishments, we took it upon ourselves to create something new in South London, albeit with Funked Up doing the rounds at the Brixtonian (remember that place? respect to Darren) Bemi's Amplified doing the rounds at the The Medicine Bar, and & Charlie Dark continuing with Blacktronica at the ICA, the aim was to develop a new type of club experience involving live performances, creative artwork & moving images to engage the public. No more mindless head numbing music, associated with base level lyrics that, in essence, did nothing for the people but divide, disharmonize and demote Black People to...well...nothing.

So now it's 4 years on & with Generika promoting the Akufunkture nights, we've been blessed by being able to come in to contact with a number of highly talented artists, including The Mighty Jeddo (Jazz Reloaded), Max Cole, Simbad, Spoonface, Kay Suzuki, Jazznett, Abdul Shyllon...in working with people of this caliber, things can only get better right?

Fresh from a year & and a half hiatus, Generika Hi-Fi’s returning to do good things again. More good music, more positivity, more progression for 2008 & beyond. You will see us soon, & we appreciate your support.
